beauty standards are the standard that media sets on how women (and men) should look. they can be very harmful as they often don't depict realistic expectations for our bodies. on average, the teenage girl sees 400 images a day telling her how she should look.
And you absolutely CAN'T tell me this isn't harmful to young people. It's one of the reasons so many young people today deal with anxiety, depression, and eating disorders. ESPECIALLY eating disorders. It's completely awful what society tells young girls their waists should look like. Ive known so many people struggle with anorexia and bulimia, me included. it's awful. so PLEASE PLEASE have the decency to not say that beauty standards aren't a problem. because they ARE.
