I'm working on chapter 8
Enzy Creek was described as a fun, energetic and safe camp for kids to enjoy the outdoors. The safe part might've been. Annalise boarded the bus. Her parents and Monty waved goodbye. She hated to go yet that feeling was overshadowed by the joy of not having Monty near for the whole summer. Before Annalise could sit down, the bus suddenly lurched. Annalise was flung into the nearest seat. The entire ride consisted of campers singing, playing games, with the occasional humming from the bus driver. " Annie! Come join us." Annalise hated when people called her Annie. Her name was Annalise! Not Annie. Not Anna. Not Ann. Not Lise. Why do people not get it? She didn't say anything to the group of girls. " We're playing I spy, ya wanna join." Annalise didn't shrugged. " Why not?" Every girl in the group was southern with irritating valley girl accents. Do southerners have valley girl accents or am I just mixing the two up? Annalise thought. She eventually, emphasis on eventuality, toned the girls out. Right at the moment they arrived at camp. " You're in my cabin." Annalise was pulled to their destination. The cabin was small, made of wood, and had a broken window. It was the only window. An eleven year old blonde girl sat on the porch. A group of boys passing by saw her , then started singing "Come on Eileen". Sure enough, that was the girl's name. Eileen caught sight of Annalise and gestured her to the porch. " What do you think of this place so far?" Eileen peered at the small girl. " I like it." There was an eerie pause. Finally, Eileen spoke. " Just wait until it gets dark." Annalise was on the edge of her seat. " Why?! What happens?" Eileen grinned mischievously, leaning in closer. " Legend has it, the woods surrounding us are haunted, maybe even the campground....." Her words trailed off at the end, adding to the spookiness. Children and teens surrounded the n campfire, roasting marshmallows and hot dogs. " Gather around and hear the tale of the bloody maiden ." Eileen's voice rang out above the singing. " A hundred years ago, a young woman was killed by an angry mob on these very grounds. Supposedly she hunts down large groups and kills every person." Lacy Jaron scoffed. " Oh please, I could tell a better ghost story than that." " Go ahead." Lacy pondered. " Alright then." She cracked her knuckles."Back in the 60s, a troop was wandering through forest. They were supposed to bring back supplies but no one saw them for weeks. Years later, their bodies were discovered at the bottom of the lake. " Lacy would've continued if Eileen hadn't laugh."What's so scary about that?" Lacy's mouth twisted into a smile. " I was just getting there. One troop drowning might not be scary. But every single year before the new millennium, at least one person has died in that lake. Who knows if the curse is gone or not?" Annalise was terrified. The terror continued even after Annalise got into bed. Tap. Tap. Tap. It was coming from the window. Don't look, she told herself. It's just a raccoon. Then she heard the scream. Immediately Annalise turned to the window. A woman with gray hair, clothes and skin peered through. Her eyes were sewn shut. There appeared to be a bloodred aura surrounding the woman. Annalise knew that this was the bloody maiden. She climbed up the bunk bed's ladder. " Move it, squirt." Eileen tried to push her off. Annalise nudged her. " Look at the window." She was certain Eileen would start freaking out. Rather than screaming in terror, she just said " What am I supposed to be looking at?" Annalise went into a frenzy. " You don't see her! She was right there, the bloody maiden!" Eileen began to giggle. " You actually believed that. Kid, the bloody maiden is fake. It was probably just your imagination." Annalise couldn't argue with that. But as she settled down back in bed, she could've sworn she saw someone walk to the next cabin. Morning arrived. Annalise had stayed up all night. She dared not to sleep, to not fall prey to the monsters that crept in the shadows. Right as the sunlight peaked through the window, she began snoring. Her slumber lasted thirty minutes before she was awoken. " Get up." It was Eileen. " We've got some place to go." The two girls trudged through the woods. " Aha!" Eileen shouted. There was a lake. Clear as the sky, it glistened sapphires. Annalise grabbed the elder girl's sleeve, stopping Eileen in her tracks. " What are we doing here ?" Eileen squirmed her way out of Annalise's grasp. " Lacy dared me to. I thought I'd bring someone along to make sure she got told I did it." Eileen worked toward the lake before stopping. Had she felt the cold wind that brushed against Annalise? Out of the corner of her eye, Annalise saw a creature leap from between two trees. She began to run, yelling for Eileen to follow. Annalise thought she heard footsteps. Every single camper surrounded Annalise as she lay on the floor, out of breath. " Eileen." She gasped for breath. " Lake." Another gasp. " Lake." Gasp. " Monster." Gasp. " Ran." Gasp. " Where's Eileen?" Lacy handed Annalise a water bottle. The latter drank, grateful for every drop. " I thought she was behind me. I know I heard footsteps." Lacy frowned. " None of us have seen her since last night." They all avoided the forest, afraid of what lurked there. Afraid of what truths they might face. Lacy hardly spoke anymore. Annalise could never fall asleep. Even the clique of southern girls were paranoid. Of course the camp counselors didn't notice a missing girl. The place was crowded. Or they did and just didn't want to get sued. Three months later, Annalise looked back at the camp. The bus rattled on the bumpy road. Kids were excited to be going home. They had forgotten about Eileen. Annalise turned her gaze to the only empty seat. That should have been Eileen's seat. Coincidentally, Lacy was thinking the same thing. Annalise's eyes met hers and they both knew it. It was on the front page. " Dead girl found in lake." Read the front page. Annalise found closure in the fact that Eileen's corpse had been found. On the other hand, she couldn't shake off the eerie feeling that someone was watching her. Someone inhuman.
