he probably did so because (assuming you're a female but I don't know, this is theoretical) it's usually the "polite" thing to hold open a door for a girl and depending on you and your brother's ages, if you're younger than him he probably held it open because you were younger and your brother was older so he thought "he's able to keep it open himself". but I agree, that does sound annoying
