I would just tell whichever parent you're most comfortable with how you feel (I've been feeling super sad and anxious and these are some things that trigger it, etc) and see what he/she says. they might just say to talk through things with them, but they might agree and schedule an appt with a counselor. I have one and she's really nice and we've worked through a few things together. I had to try a few different ones out to see who would be the best fit for me.
