I think if you truly do love him, it’s best to tell him. There is always the possibility that it will end badly, but you never know if you don’t try.

maybe seeing him outside of the working environment is a good idea. gets you a read on how he is as a human in the rest of his life. I would definitely make good on that goal to hang out more and then see from there
