and I do love him but it’s like he’s trying to get me to avoid getting upset with him and that he’s excusing himself. He also calls me cute whenever I’m mad and I hate that. It’s like he disregards my anger. Am I in the right to feel upset about this? It’s confusing me.

Oh yeah you're right to be upset by this. I'm not 100% but it sounds like hes trying to push it away and you should tell him you don't like when he does all this

Maybe say something like, yes I love you but I need to talk to you about this so can we please talk? Or something similar

I’d gently confront him about it, saying you will love him always but that you have every right to share your feelings and not have them be ignored or belittled. same with the calling you cute; I bet he doesn’t even realize he’s deflecting or being rude, sometimes people miss those patterns. maybe talking with him about it will help, it’s better than it putting strain on you :( I hope things get better
