How do I gain enough confidence to decrease my social anxiety and make friends irl? (I have really bad social anxiety and find verbal speech very difficult)

ok so I've been friends with this girl for 8 years and we trust each other and tell each other everything. so I'm dating this guy that she used to like about a year ago and she is now flirting with him. he and I already broke up once because I thought he liked her more than me. but we are back together now but anyways idk how to tell her to stop Bc she might claim that she's not flirting with him and then turn on me and tell everyone how much of a ***** I am. like I need that right now. I really happy with him and I don't want her in the mix. everytime I look at her in class she is turned around trying to get his attention or talking to him. I guess it's good that he's not flirting with her but if they have dated before, then is long can he hold out until he starts texting her or even flirting with her? I seriously need help

I'm very introverted and want to make more friends, but some of my "popular" friends tell me to just talk to people. I'm nice, but everything I try and talk to someone and try and compliment them or something, they end up talking to their own friends, not me. I'm very awkward too.😂
