I saw In The Heights in theaters last Friday, and as an avid musical fan, I loved it. my favorite song by far was Paciencia Y Fe which is about Abuela Claudia’s journey to America as a young girl in the 40s.
Abuela Claudia comes from Havana, Cuba, and the dress featured in this collage is NOT FROM CUBA. The dress is inspired by traditional dresses of the Congo, and is in no way supposed to accurately depict any sort of Cuban dress. the only reason I chose it was because of the white color and general shape.
the background photos on the other hand, are pictures from Cuba (on the right) and the U.S. in the 40s (on the left)
I had a lot of fun creating this collage, even though I’ve never made anything like it before lol.
and if you read all that, you deserve a prize.
