Lauren jumped, startled. she turned to Corey, holding her chest. “oh my gosh. you really like pushing me close to heart attacks, don’t you?” she leaned on the railing and took a deep breath.

ainslie shrugged and said “ive been a bit busy lately with family stuff but ill try to bother you more often lately!” she laughs

"You still owe me that movie night you know." Ziggy shrugged, adjusting the strap of the bag she was carrying.

jade entered the cafe. minus the additional scar, she was feeling a lot better— physically. she was finally allowed to leave the house after being concussed.

Lauren bit her lip, and remembered the last time she was at a diner. but she shrugged it off. maybe it’d be better with Corey. “yeah, sure!” she pointed to the parking lot near them. “I can drive.”

layne nodded and said “yeah actually-“ he leaned in a bit whispering “while investigating at the police station i found some files about missing people’s cases from many years ago similar to the ones happening now. you know people with markings and numbers carved on their body and stuff…its creepy.”

“interesting,” jade said, grinning, “good job jr. detective.,” she said before adding, “anything stand out in particular?” she asked, “definitely creepy, but we can definitely use some of those minute details to help,”

Cole saw Blake and smiled. it was dead body girl! the girl that he bought lunch for! but she looked sad again. he called, “blake!”

blake looked up, surprised to see the boy she had been talking to a few weeks ago at that restaurant. “cole, hey!” she said with a smile.

Cole sat next to her and grinned. “you okay?” he picked up a shell next to him and traced the pattern with his index finger.

“sure,” blake said slightly sarcastically. “i’m fine!”

Cole nudged her. “you are a horrible liar.” he sighed. “I know you’re lying, mostly because I do it too. all the time.”

“A for effort though?” blake said with a smile. “i tried my very best.”

Cole laughed a little and looked at her. “seriously, what’s up?”

“it’s just…i can’t get it out of my head,” blake said, diverting her eyes. she didn’t want to actually have to say it out loud.

Cole nodded slowly. “it… meaning the body?” he sat back on his hands. “I know what it’s like. to have something on your mind for a while. i bet it’s taking over your life. your thoughts. everything.” his eyelids flickered. “only certain emotions do that to you. like fear, anger, guilt.” he shrugged. “for me it’s guilt.”

“guilt?” blake asked, grateful to get some sort of attention off of herself and also curious as to what cole was talking about.

Cole nodded. “mhm. when I came here, I took marley and we got away from my dad. but I didn’t take my little sister. her name was Natalie. and I regret that every day.” he gripped the shell. “I shouldve taken her. but that was the perfect opportunity for me. there wasn’t ever a better time.” he sighed. “I just hope she’s ok, you know?” he shrugged again and turned to her. “so yeah, that’s what I think about a lot. so I get it.”
