I completely agree with you, but 12/13 year olds should hopefully be aware of horrible things like mental illnesses, I was aware at the age of 11, I had depression since I was nine, anxiety when I was 11/12 and now depression and OCD (kinda) and I'm almost 14. We really need to do more to make people aware.
My best friend is struggling with anorexia and when I attempted to tell our other two bffs about it, they didn't know what a mental illness was. I spent so long explaining and they said I was being pushy, and controlling and they could just sort out her problem with just talking to her
They literally messaged me saying: let's pretend my name is Lucy, they're names are Alice and Gemma and the anorexia girl is Sally.
They said:
Me and Gemma feel like because you seem to know everything about it, you are making us second guess ourselves
all I said was that we needed to be careful when taking to her as we could trigger all sorts of things, words hurt
bear in mind I'm only 13
then she said
if it was only Gemma and I, we would have already talked to her and she wouldn't have a problem anymore.
