Chase was already up bright and early surfing as Skylar...was still sleeping. Kendall watched her brother surf from afar longing to get back on a board.

Laura woke up and yawned. She saw a blue sky. She sat up and felt sand under her toes. “Oh no!” Laura thought. She rushed into her dorm and got a quick shower.

Max woke up. after a good fight and a late night swim, he had taken the longest shower of his life. He got out of bed, taking his fuzzy blanket with him and draping it across his shoulders. he walked downstairs and boiled water so he could make apple cider.

She got herself together and changed clothes and went down to the beach to watch Chase. “Hi!” Laura called to Kendall

Max poured the water into his cider mix and stirred. before he went outside he grabbed a froodle and took it out of the packaging. he shuffled onto the beach porch, still wrapped in his blanket.

Kendall nodded as a flash of memories came back to her and she went completely silent. She finally added, “Yeah, he is,”

Skylar rolled out of bed and got ready for breakfast. She went downstairs and made herself a smoothie

Michael woke up. He was all sweaty and his hands were full of paint. He took a quick shower and got dressed. He really had no friends to go to, so he grabbed his art, inhaler and school things and put them in his book bag and went to the other side of the beach to draw.

Brody woke up and made his way over to the beach sitting down on the beach porch.

Kendall then sighed and just looked out to the water. She then accidentally said out loud, “Maybe I should go out there, sharks don’t normally bite people...right?”

Max opened his eyes and took another sip as someone walked onto the porch. “gmornin” he said cheerfully, looking at the boy. “I don’t believe we’ve met, what’s your name?”

“Oh hi. Uh, I’m Michael. Who’re you?” Michael shoved his art into his backpack

“Um, no they don’t. but here’s a little tip. My mother once said for some reason that if the water is deep as triple the size of you or deeper there is more sharks.” Laura shrugged. “Prolly a myth she made up.”

Max smiled. “I’m Maxwell, but feel free to call me max” he replied. “did you arrive yesterday with the other later students?” he asked curiously.

"Hi, I'm Brody." he said smiling, his voice still raspy and tired as he had just woken up.

Max sipped his cider and adjusts his blanket. “I’m max, if you didn’t hear already” he said, laughing lightly.

“Yes. I arrived at night. See, I had a hockey tournament and then there was overtime and I was pooped...and uh I feel asleep for three hours and this school is an hour long drive.” Michael laughed. “And of course my sister has her drivers license but I don’t.”

“H-hi Brody.” Michael yawned

“Well Yeah...sharks mostly room out there because there’s more food. I’m not going that far...” she muttered.

Max laughs. “oh, that’s quite a predicament” he replies. He looks at Michaels bag. “so uh..what were ya drawing? a certain, someone?” he waggles his eyebrows.

Skylar walked outside of the beach with no intentions

“Oh, ok! Well you can go enjoy yourself. I’ll stay here. I have my piano music to edit.” Laura smiled

Max rolled back over to the brownie construction area and sat there, sipping his finger occasionally in the batter.

Max laughed and ran up to the observatory, grabbing his blanket in the way. Once he arrived he curled up and fell asleep, since he didn’t sleep well or long that night.

Kendall could feel him coming closer to possess her. She just locked herself in a bathroom and started to cry. She had no more pills or anything...all hope was lost. Hopefully he would just kill her here without harming anyone.

Max walked to the kitchen with his blanket cape and grabbed a brownie. He went to the garden and laid in the grass.

In her reflection there he stood. He took on her form, but my demonic. Her reflection’s eyes were glowing red as her naturally tan complexion with quite the opposite. She started to wonder how much longer...She punched the mirror and just sank against the door. She took out a book that Jack ordered and just started reading it. She was desperate for answers.

Max’s brow creases. “um...I’m not completely sure..” max says. “why do you ask?”

“So, I have a big family. And my mom... she just passed away this year...” Sofi paused and looked down. “And my dad, he kind of lost it... and he didn’t seem to care about my family anymore, so I ran away,” Sofi sighed. “I found my friend who lives not to far away from my house and her parents recommend this school...”

“They said that I could stay with them, but I said no. So now I pretty much live here, I don’t know what I’ll do when the school year ends,” Sofi said quietly.

“Well, since me and Michael were born our mother noticed something strange about us and just gave us away. Sketchy I know. But the person who took us in smoked like two packs of cigarettes every day so Michael developed some breathing problems from being around them. On our eleventh birthday we escaped and basically lived on the beach. We had no friends and everyone made fun of us. Finally some rich guy took us in when we were thirteen. I learned to surf and went in competitions and Michael did art. We never had any friends and..the person who took us in decided to put us here because we are ‘exceptionally smart’. We made the cut. I just really wanted friends.” Laura said, tears streaming down her face now.

“Sorry, I’m sorry.”

Skylar and Chase just turned to each other and looked back at Sofi, “Well, guess what we both have family problems as well...” Skylar said, “And we’re here for you,” she added. Chase nodded in agreement.

Brittany, Clara, and Jesse had decided to go surfing. They’d got up before sunrise and the waves were huge. The morning was so beautiful because the sky was stripes of pink, red, orange, and blue, and the water was sparkling and it was amazing.

“You’re Welcome, and you are welcomed to stay at the school over summer, some people do because we have a camp,” Chase added

Sofi hadn’t really told anyone about her family except for her friend who recommended this school, so she didn’t really know what to say. She was completely in tears at her friend’s house, but here it was all different.

They’re still surfing. And laughing. And doing tricks. Yup.

“Okay, Thanks,” Sofi said and looked up.

“If there was anyone to trust I’d trust you.” Laura smiled. “By the way, WHATS up with Araaa?” Laura taunted

Max groans. “not this againnnn” he said mockingly. he laughed and crossed his arms, refusing to look at Laura.

Emilia suddenly bursts into tears at their twirling section. Tomas has to sit her down on the sand and hug her.

Clara rides up a wave and turns the board under her when she jumps. Brittany rides up and grabs the board so she’s laying on it in air and twists around before standing back up to land. Jesse rides up and does a backflip and lands back on his board. “Nice one Jesse!” Clara called. “Thanks!” he says.

Sofi let out a breath of relief. “It feels nice to tell someone...” Sofi said.

Kendall then takes out a bigger piece of paper and starts writing a long note. Her handwriting was horrible as she was shaking so much, but it wasn’t unreadable. “Dear Family, Friends, And Acquaintances, If you are reading this, then I’m most likely dead or taken over. If I’m not already dead then please make sure I am. I have a few words to dedicate to each of you. Chase, please just stay alive for me okay? Okay. Skylar, I love you. You were always like a sister to me. Laura, I’m sorry for running off...it was never because of that.” she then wrote a few more letters to a few more friends. She then wrote a note to her crush, but her handwriting was so messed up you couldn’t tell who it was from, “Djejjdejsksowks, I’ve always liked you...Goodbye. Love, Kendall,” she finished the note

Max giggles and his ears turn red. “that would be an oddity” he said, moving his hands so they were in the sleeves. “but still...I admire Emilia..” he says quietly.

She gets up and storms off to the nearest bathroom, furiously wiping her face and leaving Tomas to eat her dust (or sand). Now HE feels a bit like crying, but he doesn't.

“Nice to meet you!” he shouts since he’s kinda far. He rides up the wave and hangs ten before riding back down. He then passes the girls and rides up, spins, and lands.

“I support lots of people. Including Michael. Because sometimes he’s too lazy to walk so I have to literally support him. But anyway.”

Laura shrugged. “I personally think you should do what’s best.”

Michael whipped out his phone and called Skylar.

Clara and Brittany laugh. Jesse is too busy doing tricks to hear.

Max laughs shakily. “that’s true. Anyways. now that we’ve both spilled our guts, wanna go back?” he asked her.

“Sure. If my guts work enough for me to stand up then yes.” Laura laughed. She stood up. “They work.”

“I guess I’m going to the library. I need to finish up my piano music.” Laura shrugged. “I don’t know. I might just sleep the rest of the day.”

Sofi grinned and started walking to the beach.

“everyone seems so sad, like I’ve never been to such a depressed school. and I’ve never met a girl with inner demons either” he shrugs. “I guess that’s what I get for coming to this school”

Emilia finds a bathroom and dashes in, slamming the door so hard it almost comes off its hinges. Then she breaks down.

Max grins. “I’ll be hear waiting for a chance to add some comic relief.” he said, heading up to the observatory.

Laura grabbed her bag and flew down the stairs to the library. She pulled up a new blank document.

Emilia takes out her phone and starts going through the messages from her dad, from the diagnosis to now. She can barely see through her tears though.

Max he heads to the observatory again, splaying in the floor and sighing. “decisions decisions” he mutters.

Michael ran down to the beach and screamed Chase and Skylar’s names. “CHASEEEE! SKYLARRRR!”

Skylar and Chase hopped on their boards and started to paddle out to the water...totally unaware of what was happening to Kendall.

Sofi hadn’t gotten in the water yet, so she ran over to Micheal. “What is it?” she asked.

Laura sees her. “Uhm..hi. Who’re you again? And why are you blôody?”

“K-Kendall is dying or something I don’t know!”

“Where?!” she asked desperately. “Should I go get Skylar and Chase?”

Michael had a tear running down his face. He wiped it away. “CHASEEEE! SKYLAR!”

“In the bathroom. Go get them and meet me there!” Michael said, sprinting towards the bathroom

“Hi Tiffany. You should probably get cleaned up.”

Sofi nodded. She found someone’s surfboard and took it into the water. She had learned to surf on a trip with her aunt and uncle once, but she was having trouble remembering how. She paddled out into the water and as she approached a wave she got up on the board.

Meanwhile...her heart rate was slowing and she looked nearly identical to the reflection in the mirror. She just forced a smile and whispered to herself, “Brother please don’t die and at least I surfed again...”

Michael knelt beside Kendall and held her in his arms. He cried and cried.

Michael got that heart thingy and put it on her and did the whole process. Michaels face was tear stained and he was a mess

Sofi almost fell off her board, but she managed to stay up. Finally, she got close to Chase and Skylar. “CHASE! SKYLAR! GET OVER TO THE SHORE!” she yelled.

Michael tried CPR, mouth to mouth, he tried as much as he could. He just held Kendall’s limp body in his arms now, crying

Laura heard her brothers cry and booted it to the washrooms. She saw everything. Michael explained everything. By now Laura was just as a mess as him.

Chase and Skylar surfed back to shore, “What’s wrong?” she asked.

“No time to explain, just follow me,” Sofi said and sprinted off.

Michael hugged Kendall closely and Laura stroked her hair. Laura’s head rested on Michaels shoulder.

Laura looked at Max with her soft eyes. “what?” she whispered.

Sofi dug her nails into her leg, she does that when she’s mad at herself. “Is she going to be okay?” she asked desperately.

Max looked at Laura. “didn’t you hear Chase? Kendall must have done something to save chase” he replied softly.

Max knelt next to Kendall, his eyes shining with unshed tears. “Kendall....please, it’s not your time to go yet” he said, his voice trembling. “you are strong, and brave...we ALL need you” he said, trying to force himself to smile.

Sofi was in shock. Her eyes were wet and she felt like she was going to pass out.

“Look at the spirit, the love and the happiness you’ve brought to all of us Kendall. We can’t lose that.” Michael said shakily

“Unless you want a demonic takeover you are going to have to...okay? It’s okay, I can’t feel any pain anymore. I’ll be okay. I promise you, I will be okay,” Kendall forced a smile as her eyes glowed again.

Max nods in agreement. “and isn’t there a saying, love conquers all?” he adds, touching her hand softly. “and we all love you, WE are your brothers and sisters”

“Is there any way I could die instead of her..?” Sofi said quietly so no one could hear her.

“I’ll do anything to keep you alive Kendall, even if a demon shows up.” Michael half smiled and Laura grabbed his upper arm and held it tight

Skylar said to Erica, “Demon takeover.” she said as Chase just kind of stared at Michael.

Max ran into Jacks dorm, rummaging through all of the books. strangely, there were a lot about grapes, but as he kept looking he found a select few spell books and the like. He sprinted back to the bathroom, dumping the books on the ground. “h-here’s what I thought could help” he said, completely winded.

“I’m sorry okay she’s really sweet and beautiful and I like her.” Michael said.

Chase just blinked a few times and stayed silent as Skylar started rummaging through all the books.

Skylar turned to Erica, “Possessives then until they die...”

Sofi banged her head against the wall and helped look through the books.

Max collapsed on the ground, overcome by the mental and physical stress he had just experienced. he closed his eyes as he started to cry, leaning his head against the dirty bathroom wall.

“Is their someway the demon can come out?” Laura asked

Laura moved over to him and hugged him. “Friends support friends.” Laura said softly and cried with Max.

“Me too. As I said, we need more normal people in this school.” Laura said

All energy was draining out of Kendall quickly. “THESE BOOKS AREN’T WORKING!” Skylar exclaimed.

Jack moved towards Kendall, “hey demon. can you get out of her, like take me. I’m useless” Jack whispered to Kendalls demon.

Michael grabbed his phone and called a priest and handed the phone to Jack. “Here.”

Kendall’s voice drastically changed, “NO. HER SACRIFICE. HER LIFE.”

Skylar then got up and walked out of the room. She had to think as so many things were going on...

“No, I’m useless,” Sofi said.

“AGH!” Laura screamed and tipped over onto Max’s lap. “Sorry.”

Michael felt her forehead. “She’s burning up really bad.”

Max smiles grimly and pats Laura’s head. “ish okay Laura” he says, picking up a different book.

Sofi picked up another book. “There’s Nothing!” Sofi cried.

“Okay. Jack did that priest answer yet? And Michael give her to someone else now. Where’s Sky? Thanks Max. Did Erica just shoot someone? Sofi are you ok? Will that demon please be quiet.”
